Franz Marc was an important expressionist painter, his work is also influenced by cubist ideas and focuses on animals as main topic. He considered animals as a metaphor for pureness, for a rythm of nature. He did see animals together with their surroundings in a harmonious relation and tried to gain vitality into his paintings through animals. He died at the age of 36 in World War 1.
